About Codaonline

Codaonline and the My CV tool have been developed to enable people with learning disabilities to set out their skills and competencies when looking for a job.

Equally, My CV is intended to be helpful for employers who might be considering employing a person with a learning disability. The website provides an opportunity for information about employees to be available whenever there is a computer with internet access.

We believe this resource may help redress the disproportionate number of people with learning disabilities and difficulties who are unemployed across Europe. By offering people a platform to showcase their skills and abilities, we hope this will make it easier for both the employer and the job seeker with learning disabilities to make a successful work placement.

Funding for this project has been provided by the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Leonardo programme. The project has been developed from concept to completion over a two year period, completing in October 2010, by a consortium of six partners comprising United Response from Great Britain, ESTA and IB from Germany, MISCODE from Portugal, EUROTraining from Bulgaria and EIFEL from France

The website has been designed to offer support to job seekers, employers and supporters and CODA stands for Career Opportunities with Disadvantage Awareness.

Job seekers

My CV is the main resource for setting out skills and preferences. It can be accessed using the links in the job seekers section. My CV has been designed to be accessible to people with learning disabilities who are looking for work.

It has been designed to include abilities and competencies as well as soft skills.
It also enables the job seeker to include any work experience and previous jobs. It can also highlight the sort of environment and working conditions which the job seeker would feel most comfortable operating within. There is a guidebook to help users understand why and how to complete My CV. When the job seeker has completed their My CV, they can download it onto a CD to show people offline, or it can be held on the site to be accessed when needed or appear in an employer’s search if that person chooses for it to be.

Employers

The employers section is to help employers understand why employing someone with a learning disability can be a positive and beneficial experience. It describes the process of recruitment and support, and addresses concerns an employer might have about the placement.

Supporters

We understand that supporters may need help in supporting someone to complete My CV and to understand some of the issues around placing a job seeker with a learning disability in employment. We have provided information in the supporters section to offer guidance, give an overview of the process, and help with understanding how best to support both the job seeker and the employer.
